Self-defense classes in Shreveport

Real self-defense is learned against a resisting partner. Here that means jiu-jitsu, wrestling and boxing, taught by a 3rd-degree BJJ black belt who fought professionally.

Start with awareness

When KTBS 3 asked Coach Brent Mason about staying safe, his first rule had nothing to do with technique: always be aware of your surroundings. Avoiding a bad situation beats winning one. Training is for the times you can't avoid it.

Elite Combat Academy has been teaching self-defense in Shreveport for years; the gym's self-defense training was featured on KTBS 3 in 2017. There's no separate "self-defense course" with tricks that only work in a demo. You learn the same skills fighters use, against partners who are actually trying, at a pace that fits a beginner.

What you'll learn

  • Survive and escape on the ground No-Gi jiu-jitsu teaches you to control someone bigger and stronger, escape from underneath, and get back to your feet. It is the part of a fight most people have never practiced. BJJ program
  • Stay on your feet Cage wrestling builds takedown defense and balance against a wall, so you decide whether a fight goes to the ground at all. Wrestling program
  • Protect yourself standing Boxing for MMA drills a real guard, head movement and distance, the habits that keep you safe when someone is swinging at you. Striking program

Who it's for

Anyone who wants to be able to handle themselves. You don't need to be in shape, you don't need experience, and you never have to compete. Everyone in the room started on day one.
